Gino N., the 28-year-old defendant and David's compatriot, agreed with him on the purchase. After trying on the watch, Gino went to the bathroom and came back with a Walther PPK pistol. According to David K., the whole thing, which the prosecution sees as a robbery, seems to have ended in a nightmare. He handed over the papers for the watch and, after a brief moment of shock, was threatened with a gun. Gino's behavior has turned the steakhouse into an unexpected scene of violence.
An older case of robbery
What has also become clear in recent years: robbery crimes are increasing overall. In 2022, according to Statista, over 38,000 robbery cases were registered in Germany, a figure that shows that crime is increasing in certain areas. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the state in which Cologne is located, there were over 23,500 residential burglaries in the same year, and the clearance rate also leaves a lot to be desired. It appears to be a serious problem that concerns the authorities.
After the incident took place, David K.s contacted Gino N.'s father to clarify the issue. But he laughed at David and demanded a horrendous 25,000 euros to return the valuable watch. In order to find a solution, David ultimately had no choice but to contact the police. During a search of Gino N.'s apartment, the officers found the weapon in question and ammunition - this speaks for the seriousness of the allegations.
