Election campaign in Cologne: Who will succeed Mayor Reker?
The race to succeed Mayor Henriette Reker has begun in Cologne. Starting today, August 13, 2025, Cologne residents can cast their vote to elect a new city leader. The local elections and the integration council elections will take place on September 14, 2025. The election campaign has already begun and the cityscape is clearly marked by election posters and colorful campaigns.
It has been possible to cast votes since August 11, 2025 from 9 a.m. Cologne residents can vote directly in the customer centers and district town halls. This requires certain voting documents to be presented and a valid ID is required if the documents were not delivered on time. Please note that the election is only valid in the registered district.
Candidates at a glance
- Berivan Aymaz (Grüne): Sie ist die erste OB-Kandidatin der Grünen seit über einem Jahrzehnt. Mit 52 Jahren hat sie Jura studiert und war bereits zwischen 2014 und 2017 im Kölner Stadtrat aktiv. Aymaz sitzt seit 2017 im Landtag von Nordrhein-Westfalen, wo sie sich für eine gerechtere und nachhaltigere Zukunft für Köln einsetzt.
- Markus Greitemann (CDU): Der 64-jährige Baudezernent, der seit 2018 in höchster Verantwortung steht, bringt umfangreiche Erfahrungen mit. Unterstützt von Nathanael Liminski, dem Bezirksvorsitzenden der CDU Mittelrhein, wurde er einstimmig als OB-Kandidat nominiert.
- Torsten Burmester (SPD): Der 61-jährige Kölner hat einen beeindruckenden Lebenslauf. Ehemals Vorstandsvorsitzender des Deutschen Olympischen Sportbundes (DOSB), ist Burmester bekannt für seine politischen Fähigkeiten und hat bereits im Bundesinnenministerium sowie im NRW-Wirtschaftsministerium gearbeitet.
- Weitere Kandidaten: Auch Volker Görzel (FDP), der stellvertretende Vorsitzende der Kölner FDP-Ratsfraktion, sowie Roberto Campione (KSG), Inga Feuser (Gut und Klima-Freunde), Mark Benecke (Die Partei), Hans Mörtter (parteilos), Heiner Kockerbeck (Die Linke), Lars Wolfram (Volt) und Matthias Büschges (AfD) stehen zur Wahl.
