Diversity and cohesion: Marcel Kreutz celebrated as the new mayor

On November 4, 2025, Bergisch Gladbach's new mayor, Marcel Kreutz, was ceremoniously inaugurated into office. The ceremony took place in the Catholic Church of Saint Laurentius and gave everyone present – from citizens to political representatives to city administration employees – a varied, multi-religious celebration. Under the motto “Shaping the future together – with courage, trust and heart,” Kreutz sent a strong signal for diversity and cohesion in the city.

Kreutz, who officially had his first day on the job on Monday, November 3, 2025, was supported by his family during the event. It was particularly tongue-in-cheek when his daughter caused hilarity during his speech. First Alderman Ragnar Migenda presented Kreutz with symbolic gifts that represent the special challenges of his new task.

A sign of solidarity

The celebration was anything but ordinary: Ghettobla's tones of cohesion permeated the ceremony, including an impressive Koran recitation by Hafiz Ahmed Faiz. Halil Ibrahim Gebeseci from the Muslim community emphasized in his words the deep belief in friendship and unity, which further lightened the atmosphere. Torsten Krall, a Protestant pastor, thanked Kreutz for taking on responsibility in the city and his willingness to promote an open and inclusive society.

“It is a day that connects us all,” said Adnan Ljura, Iman of the German-Albanian Islamic Cultural Association, and called for building bridges between religious communities and cultures. Kreutz himself confirmed that he wanted to build on the work of his predecessors and strive for a non-partisan policy - with a clear commitment: he decidedly ruled out working with the AfD. He wanted to make it clear that respectful behavior is a top priority in political discourse.

Focus on important topics

What issues are on the new mayor's agenda? Kreutz paid particular attention to the urgently needed renovation of schools and streets as well as the conversion of the Zanders area. He sees the strength of urban society in the commitment of citizens and wants to actively incorporate their ideas into political work. Kreutz is convinced that a strong community is crucial for the positive development of Bergisch Gladbach.

The Nov. 4 inauguration is the first public one since 2009 and is seen as a new beginning for the city. Marcel Kreutz is aware of the major challenges that lie ahead of him, but with a clear plan and the support of the citizens, he is ready to break new ground. A look at the multi-religious celebration makes it clear that the path to a colorful future has already been paved.
