Wizz Air starts new flights to Bucharest from Cologne/Bonn!

After a long break, the Hungarian cheap airline Wizz Air returns to Cologne/Bonn Airport at the end of October 2025. The airline had regularly flown to Cologne for over ten years until it hired its last connections to Skopje and Tirana in 2024. But now the airport and of course all travel fans are happy about the return of the Wizz Air, which was officially announced on July 10, 2024, such as Aerotelegraph reported.

From October 26, 2025, Wizz Air will offer her new flights to Bucharest. The connection is carried out four times a week - Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays - and the first flight takes off from Cologne/Bonn at 1:30 p.m. With a flight time of around two and a half hours, Wizz Air opens her passengers a new goal to Romania. The airline plans to further expand its commitment at the airport and offer additional routes, which will significantly expand the transport offer for the region.

A look at Wizz Air

founded in London in July 2003, Wizz Air has now headquarters in Vecsés, Hungary. The company started its flight operations one year after its foundation with only two aircraft and was able to welcome around 250,000 passengers in the first three months. In the meantime, the airline is one of the most important 低-cost-Carrie in Eastern and Central Europe and flies more than 200 airports in 50 countries, such as airport.tips reports.

The current fleet comprises proud 80 Airbus aircraft that cover almost a third of the European market of low-cost carriers. In Germany, Wizz Air also serves Dortmund and Berlin-Schönefeld in addition to Cologne/Bonn. The main travel destinations of Wizz Air include Eastern European countries such as Poland, Bulgaria and Romania, but also Israel and Georgia are among the sought -after destinations.

Wizz Air in the change of time

Despite the challenges during the Covid 19 pandemic, which reduced the sales of Wizz Air to 793 million euros in 2021, the company remains an important size in international air traffic. In 2022, Wizz Air even reported a net loss of 642.5 million euros, but the airline remains one of the most busiest low-cost carriers in the world in terms of passenger volume. Ryanair and Easyjet assert themselves as the main competitor in this market area with impressive figures, even if Wizz Air still plays an essential role, as Statista

This is how all travel fans in Cologne and the surrounding area can look forward to cheap flights to Bucharest and will be excited to see which other destinations Wizz Air will head for in the future of Cologne/Bonn. Air traffic expects a lively future with these new connections, which will certainly also provide new winds in the travel industry.
