Giant drama in Stuttgart: 6000 people evacuated because of world war bomb!
Stuttgart, Deutschland - In Stuttgart, an unexploded World War II bomb was discovered during dredging work in the Birkenäcker district. This approximately 500 -kilogram bomb requires immediate measures to defuse, which is why extensive evacuation measures have been initiated. Around 6,000 people from the area are affected, in which residential areas as well as commercial and recreation areas are also located. The evacuation began on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and is still maintained until the defusing is completed, which is started immediately afterwards. All information can be called up on the website of the Stuttgart fire brigade, which also refers to its social media channels.
For the evacuated persons, emergency accommodation was set up in the sports hall of the Carl Benz School, Weckherlinstraße 8. The people there are looked after by the German Red Cross. The Robert Bosch Hospital is also available to intervene in the case of medical emergencies. To support the process, a hotline for citizen inquiries was set up at the Office for Public Order (Tel. (0711) 216-91911 and (0711) 216-91925). Löwentorstrasse remains closed in the critical area and is only accessible to emergency services and evacuation. The U12 light rail line will continue to be operated until the evacuation is completed.

The defusing of the bombs, including two 20-centers bombs and a 10-center bomb, was fortunately largely smooth and could be completed faster than planned. At 7:19 p.m. this was done. Of course there were also some challenges there: a resident refused to evacuate, which delayed the process. Events, such as a concert by the WDR symphony orchestra, had to be canceled or laid, and also the Hohenzollern Bridge, the most busy railway bridge in Germany, was affected.
look at the background
In Cologne, between 1,500 and 2,000 bombs from the Second World War are discovered annually, with around 200 of them being large caliber. The city was one of the most bombarded metropolises during the war. The defusing of such bombs requires strict security measures, including the blocking of the airspace and the furnishings of extensive security zones. Not only residents are affected, but also numerous institutions such as schools, old people's and nursing homes as well as several large companies.
It can be hoped that the situation in Stuttgart can be brought under control just as quickly and safely. After all, the safety of people in these areas is of the highest priority.
