NRW is looking for innovative mobility projects – apply now and win 30,000 euros!

Do you want to revolutionize mobility in North Rhine-Westphalia with creative ideas? Then you should apply now! The Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport has started the application phase for the NRW Mobility Prize 2025. A total prize money of 30,000 euros will be awarded to innovative mobility projects that advance the mobility transition and promote climate-friendly concepts. In 2023, the mobility prize established itself as the first prize of its kind at the state level and thus promotes future-proof mobility solutions. Transport Minister Oliver Krischer emphasizes how important shaping mobility is for the state government. “Creative solutions are needed that improve the mobility of people and goods on various modes of transport,” says Krischer. The types of projects in demand include intelligent and digital solutions for economical and environmentally friendly mobility, which also offer an incentive to switch to climate-friendly means of transport.

How does participation work?

Participation in the competition is free of charge for individuals, initiatives, companies, associations and start-ups. The projects are reviewed by a panel of experts and then evaluated by a jury of experts. Criteria such as the uniqueness of the solutions and the role model character are taken into account in the assessment. A special highlight will be the online voting, in which citizens can choose the winners.

The awarding of the mobility prize not only takes place to recognize the best projects, but also to inspire all those involved in the field of sustainable mobility. “With this prize, we would like to create an incentive to develop better solutions and thus actively shape the mobility transition in North Rhine-Westphalia,” adds the ministry.

A look at the previous award winners

In the first round of 2023, the prize was awarded to the Citizens' Laboratory Mobiles Münsterland, which took 1st place. Second place went to Power Road by Eurovia and third place went to the on-demand offer “efi”. In the following year, 2024, the innovative approach of Bürgerbus Lüdinghausen was honored for 1st place as well as “Feierabendparken Düsseldorf” and the Cologne-Porz e-bus depot.

In addition, around 50 municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia are involved in a participatory process to develop sustainable mobility concepts. These concepts should contain recommendations for action and implementation strategies and are developed together with citizens and local politicians. Existing municipal concepts can also be used and are being further developed.
