New Historical Park Deutz: Time travel through 17 centuries!

Deutzer Rheinufer, 50679 Köln, Deutschland - Am Deutzer Rheinufer, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the old town of Cologne, history comes alive. The Historical Park Deutz is not only a beautiful spot, but also a free open-air museum that takes visitors on a journey through time through 17 centuries.

In the middle of excavations and relics, the park comes up with surprises. The finds range from the Roman fort Divitia, which was built in the 4th century under Emperor Konstantin I, to a station hob from the 19th century. The latter is part of the exciting railway history, which is closely linked to Deutz. The UNESCO World Heritage Divitia was a bridge head castle and played a central role in the development of the Cologne right bank of the Rhine and its transport infrastructure.

new information boards for more knowledge

In order to make the historically pre -loaded area even more accessible, new information boards have now been set up that replace the provisional signs. These boards not only provide information in German and English, but also in blind writing and contain QR codes for access to further information and images. This means that the park is not only visually appealing, but also instructive. A total of 16 plates tell of the different eras and the wonderful relics found here.

The horseshoe -shaped tower from the 12th and 13th centuries is particularly highlighted, the outline of which is traced in the pavement. The Prussian Wachturm, which was demolished in 1909, is also discussed on the new boards. The entire conversion and the new information systems cost the city around 230,000 euros and are now forming a perfect end to the Rheinboulevard.

archaeological highlights in the park

The park is not only a historical place, but also houses archaeological testimonies from different eras, including Roman walls and medieval vaults. Excavations from 2010 to 2015 confirmed many earlier finds. The military character of the castle, which offered space for 500 to 1,000 soldiers, comes to life by the stereoscope on the archaeological balcony in 3-D look, and gives an impressive overview of history.

A particularly impressive feature is the bronze model of the Roman castle, which can be found on the archaeological balcony. The remains of the gatelings on the Rhine can also be visited under a protective construction, another highlight for those interested in history.

The history of Deutz 'goes back to its foundation as Colonia Claudia ara agrippinensium . The long -term history of this city becomes visible with every excavation of discovery - be it Roman bathing facilities or other finds that repeatedly come to light during construction work.

The Förderverein Historischer Park Deutz not only takes care of the cleanliness, but also offers guided tours and ensures that the historical heritage of Deutz is optimally staged. The combination of natural beauty, exciting history and innovative information systems makes the park a must for tourists and Cologne.
