Motorcycle accident on B500: Biker seriously injured - police are looking for witnesses!
A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday evening, September 30, 2023, on the B500 near Baden-Baden. A 53-year-old motorcyclist was injured and caused material damage of around 30,000 euros. According to Tixio, the incident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. when a group of three motorcyclists were traveling on the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse towards Bühlerhöhe. In a left-hand bend, at least one driver crossed into the oncoming lane, resulting in an extremely dangerous situation.
The oncoming drivers were forced to brake sharply. The 53-year-old motorcycle actor finally collided with one of the braking vehicles, a Ducati. The severity of his injuries took him to hospital, where he was flown by rescue helicopter. Surprisingly, the three motorcyclists drove off towards Baden-Baden after the accident without paying any attention to the accident. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclists were traveling at high speeds before the incident, and police are currently looking for additional witnesses who can provide information about the fleeing drivers.
Another example of motorcycle accidents
The dangers associated with motorcycling are highlighted by another incident on the B500 on Monday afternoon. As News.de reports, a 27-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after falling alone in a curve. The 21-year-old passenger was unable to get out of the way in time and unfortunately ran over the 27-year-old's leg. The property damage in this case amounted to around 6,000 euros, and quick action was required here as the injured driver had to be taken to the hospital for an examination.
The sad accident statistics
Motorcycle accidents are a serious issue in Germany. According to [Autohaus](https://www.autohaus.de/nachrichten/ Schadenbusiness/adac-unfallanalyse-ein-drittel-der-motorradunfaelle-sind-alleinunfaelle-3377835), the accident risks for motorcyclists are four times higher than for car drivers, and this accident rate is even seven times as high. Every year there are over 500 fatalities and almost 10,000 serious injuries to motorcyclists, which illustrates the dangers lurking when riding on two wheels. Over a third of all accidents are solo accidents, with driving errors and excessive speed often being the main causes.
In recent years there has been a decline in the number of fatal and seriously injured motorcyclists, but the percentage of this group of traffic fatalities is steadily increasing. In addition, young motorcyclists, particularly those aged 15 to 24, are at high risk of being involved in accidents. The most common injuries are traumatic brain injuries, thoracic traumas and injuries to the extremities.
The situation requires prudent behavior and preventive measures. The ADAC recommends motorcyclists wear protective clothing, undergo regular safety training and be aware of the physical limits of their vehicle. Such measures could potentially significantly reduce the number of accidents. The police and traffic authorities are also planning infrastructure measures to improve safety for all road users.
