Traffic chaos in Cologne: Massive construction sites and traffic jams until November!
There will be significant traffic restrictions in Cologne in the near future due to construction sites. Loud news.de This particularly affects the A559, which is affected by construction work. These measures began on September 15, 2025 and are scheduled to last until November 17, 2025.
The restrictions will be particularly noticeable on the A559 between the Cologne-Gremberg motorway junction and the Cologne-Porz junction. There will be a one-sided closure in the direction of Cologne-Porz. As part of this construction work, not only will the bridge be renewed, but the passage width will also be adjusted to 6 meters. The construction sites will be active between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., although congestion and slow traffic should be expected.
Further closures and construction work
But that's not all: there are also restrictions in other places. The A4, for example, is also affected by a unilateral closure that will come into force from November 14, 2025, 8:00 p.m. to November 17, 2025, 5:00 a.m.
Another critical point concerns Frankfurter Straße, which will be closed in the direction of travel, also from November 14th to 17th. On the A559 between the Cologne-Gremberg motorway junction and the Cologne-Gremberghoven junction, a bridge with a length of 2.67 km will be renovated, while on the section from the Cologne-Porz junction back to the Cologne-Gremberg motorway junction, a bridge with a length of 3.40 km will be renovated.
Be careful on the road
As the experts from the NRW State Road Construction Authority emphasize, every driver should be particularly careful during this construction work. Increased traffic volumes are expected, especially during peak hours. The city advises considering alternative routes and allowing enough time for the journey.
Of course, it is a big change for residents and commuters. Nevertheless, one can hope that the construction work will be completed quickly and that the improvements will benefit traffic in the region. Until then: be patient and don't be averse to taking a detour!
