Cologne lucky fence: 90 meters art for optimism and community!

Riehl, Deutschland - On June 28, 2025, a very special art installation from HA Schult was ceremoniously opened in Cologne. The impressive, 90 meter long "luck" installation adorns the construction site of the DEVK insurance in Riehl and shows a colorful sequence of pictures with a total of 25 subjects. These pictures are not only decorative, rather they reflect the personal moments of happiness from the Cologne city society. The project thus uses a colorful accent in everyday gray redevelopment and invites the population to share their own experiences and stories on the subject of happiness. The call for the sending of images and texts that Schult initiated on his blog www.glueck-koeln.de was very well received and the submitted articles formed a collective "soul picture" on the facade of the building that celebrates the variety of Cologne experiences.

The artist himself describes the pictures shown as a "score" - a multi -part composition that expresses people's emotions and experiences. This colorful show offers a unique insight into the happy moments that move the citizens of the city. “Happiness” thus bundles the ideas, memories and emotions of the city society, so that every viewer can identify with the representations. DEVK director Annette Hetzenegger emphasizes how much this art installation enriches neighborhood life and spreads optimism.

action on World Children's Day

Another highlight is already around: On World Children's Day, September 21, children are cordially invited to paint their own happiness for the upcoming “Glücks” passage on the banks of the Rhine. The DEVK supports the event as the main sponsor. A committed exchange between art and community is sought to promote social cohesion and to further enrich cultural life in Cologne.

The role of art in public space

The project is part of the comprehensive strategy of the city of Cologne to use creative urban design as a means of promoting cultural identity and social cohesion. Art in public space, such as wall paintings and interactive installations, transforms neglected areas into living activity centers and contributes to improving urban identity. Current developments show that civil engineering and creative cooperation are crucial to create a sense of belonging and to strengthen the responsibility of the residents for public works of art. This procedure is reflected in the diverse representations of the "happiness" installation, show a wide variety of everyday scenes in Cologne and thus strengthen the shared coexistence.

In the coming weeks, the opposite side on the construction fence on Tiergartenstrasse will also be designed with further contributions from the Cologne citizens. In this way, the “happiness” campaign remains a lively process and offers everyone interested the opportunity to upload their personal texts, photos or drawings at www.glueck-koeln.de. The Cologne team can thus become part of this unique, artistic representation and incorporate their stories and moments of happiness.
