Summer is finally here and with it the open-air cinema season in Cologne! As the Cologne City Gazette reports, numerous cinemas and venues in Cologne and the surrounding area offer a varied program that ranges from classics to modern blockbusters. Highlights of the open-air cinemas

The Naturstrom summer cinema in the Rheinauhafen started at the end of May with great film highlights. The floating screen shows, among other things, the Oscar winners “Anora” and “Mission Impossible 8”. Admission here starts at 7 p.m., while the films usually start from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are available in advance from 11 euros.

The screen will also be installed in the MAKK – the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne – from July 3, 2025. Here you can look forward to films in the original language with German subtitles. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and entry is 8 euros in advance, while it costs 8.95 euros at the door.

The Brauweiler Abbey invites you to film classics on several evenings in August. From “The Window to the Yard” to “Top Gun” – there is something for every taste. Admission starts at 7 p.m. and the films start around 9 p.m., while tickets start at 6.10 euros.

A very special event: The Bonn Silent Film Festival

Another highlight for film fans is the Bonn Silent Film Festival, which will take place from August 7th to 17th, 2025. This event took place in the arcade courtyard of the University of Bonn and entry is free - but donations are warmly welcome! If only this isn't a great opportunity to celebrate past cinematic art!
