Botanical garden: new showers will soon open their doors!

The new showers in the Botanical Garden of Cologne are about to open. After an intensive planning and construction phase, the impressive greenhouses were officially decreased in mid-April 2025. The construction supervision ensured that all requirements of the award and contract regulations for construction work (VOB) were met, such as Rheinische-Versblaetter.de reports. Despite some technical challenges, such as the high water loss in the watercourse and the climatic conditions in the desert house, the checks by the urban building industry were consistently positive.

The progress is gratifying: no leaks were found in the water -bearing lines, and the soil at the proximity to the pelvis does not show any increased moisture values. A specialist who is responsible for building technology is currently assessing whether the water losses may be due to natural evaporation. However, the final results of these examinations are still pending. In order to optimize the climatic conditions in the desert house, the experts consider the installation of additional ventilation flaps necessary. The associated tender and award are in full swing, and the costs are currently being determined, so stadt-koeln.de.

The botanical garden experience

As soon as the work on the ventilation flaps is complete, the botanical garden plans to open the new show greenhouse for the public. An exact date cannot yet be named, but the opening could take place in September 2025 at the earliest. The new greenhouses offer visitors the opportunity to linger in various climatic zones, while around 3,800 types of plants from tropical rainforests and deserts are presented on around 2,500 square meters, as the website of the Botanical Gardens of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.

Special highlights of the botanical garden are the rainforest house, the Farnhaus, and the desert house, which is known for its impressive water storage plants. Among other things, the Christ flower and other exotic plants can be admired here. The Mediterranean house and the Monsunhaus complement the collection with frost -sensitive plants and plants from rainy forests.

A visit to the new showers' houses for lovers of rare plants will be an unforgettable experience. It will be interesting to see what beauties the botanical garden will present after the opening. The anticipation is great and preparations are in full swing. This could mark an exciting chapter in the history of the Botanical Garden of Cologne.
