New coaching team at 1. FC Köln: Returnees bring a breath of fresh air!

1. FC Köln is doing everything right and has completed its coaching team for the coming season in the Bundesliga. Under the leadership of the new head coach Lukas Kwasniok, there is now a powerful team that consists of old friends and a breath of fresh air. Picture reports that the official introduction of the new coaching staff will take place this week.

The returnees include Frank Kaspari (54) and René Wagner (36), both of whom previously worked at Geißbockheim. Kaspari was assistant coach under Markus Gisdol and had significant responsibility for the loan players, while Wagner most recently worked under Steffen Baumgart. His move to Hamburger SV and Union Berlin shows that he is very popular in the football world. But now Cologne is happy about his return. Hannes Dold, who has been active in game analysis at FC for almost twelve years, will also have a more important role in the coaching team and will act as an assistant coach.

Familiarity in the dugout

A big advantage of the new composition is the familiar way of working. Kwasniok has already worked with Kaspari at SC Paderborn, which can only strengthen the team structure. “I’m looking forward to working together,” said Kwasniok at the club’s regular members’ table. All assistant coaches who have signed contracts until June 30, 2028 bring a mixture of expertise and identification, which sports director Thomas Kessler particularly emphasizes.

The head coach remains solely responsible for the team, but has the support of his assistant coaches, who can take on a variety of tasks. In practice, this may mean that one of the assistant coaches takes responsibility for training a specific group or provides tactical advice during games. Starting signal for the new season

The first training session at Geißbockheim is scheduled for July 7th, and the team will be brought into shape beforehand through performance and health checks. With the proven fitness, rehabilitation and athletic trainers as well as the experienced keeper coach Peter Greiber, who came to Cologne last summer, the basic structure of the coaching system remains intact. Greiber has already worked successfully with goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe, which promises additional stability.

There will still be a change in the team. Thomas Hickersberger, who was responsible for standards as assistant coach, will leave FC. His commitment last season was recognized by Kessler, who wishes him all the best for the future. Cologne is facing an exciting league season with a coaching team that consists of experience, familiarity and a clear plan.
