Police in Cologne-Kalk: Broken-men with debit cards caught!

Köln-Kalk, Deutschland - on July 17, 2025, around 3:40 p.m., police officers in Cologne-Kalk arrested two men aged 41 and 43. The two residual drug users were in a parking lot on Vorsterstrasse to examine and distribute several debit cards. An attentive focus on the police led to this arrest, which gave the officials an insight into the criminal machinations of the two men. During the 43-year-old's search, the police found an Apple Watch, an MP3 player and a car key, while his accomplice was equipped with a charging cable and cash in euros and US dollars.

The objects found in the men come from two broken cars in the area. In addition, one of the men was associated with theft, which occurred in June 2025 and where the property of a 49-year-old woman was stolen. It is particularly alarming that one of the debit cards has been used eight times, which makes the dimension of theft clear. This incident falls into a larger context in which crime in Germany has experienced a questionable increase in recent years. The figures for theft are also alarming: In 2022 there were around 1.78 million thefts recorded by the police, which was an increase compared to previous years after there was a decline for a long time. In particular, burglary theft increased and North Rhine-Westphalia is a sad leader with over 23,500 cases in 2022, which makes up over 35% of all burglaries in Germany on Statista.
