Cologne reads together: Discover exciting reading groups in your city!
Reading has become a real community experience in Cologne. More and more people are discovering the joy of reading groups and book clubs, whether digitally via platforms such as Instagram or TikTok or traditionally in personal exchange. The range of literary events in the city is constantly growing, and the options are as diverse as the tastes of the readers.
In the Cologne Tourism Magazine you can find some exciting reading groups. A good place to start is the literature circle in the KunstSalon, which can be found at Brühler Straße 11–13. You can look forward to free participation here; registration is very easy and can be done via email. The Literaturhaus Cologne also offers a great program: members can take part in reading groups that take place once a month. These social gatherings in the morning and afternoon are a wonderful opportunity to share reading experiences. The next afternoon reading group will take place on Wednesday, October 6th, with the book “Russian Specialties” by Dmitrij Chapterman on the program.

Another highlight is the feminist reading group of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, which takes place at the Peace Education Center. Once a month, on a Wednesday, there is a social discussion there. Participation here is also free, but at the moment the places are full and registrations are currently only possible for replacements. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, you could join the Cologne Literature Club in the shared apartment find what you are looking for. For around 7 euros you get access to a monthly literary feast.
A somewhat more unusual reading series is the queer feminist reading series “Reading in Ehrenfeld”, which starts at the Ehrenfeld Community Center on September 3, 2025. Tickets are already available, and if you're quick you can even get discounted or free tickets.
The digital dimension
The number of book clubs on offer has increased enormously in recent years, not only analogue but also digitally. Deutschlandfunk culture reports that digital literature circles really boomed during the Corona crisis. These platforms bring new diversity to reading culture and allow people to share different perspectives, no matter where they are. There are even festivals where authors come into conversation with members of book clubs - a great way to discuss what they've read.
Whether you appreciate the close connection to the printed book or are looking for new opportunities for digital encounters, every bookworm is sure to find something suitable in Cologne. The variety of reading groups and book clubs offers something for everyone and not only promotes the exchange of literature, but also strengthens the community among the participants.
