Cologne CSD: Additional trains and important timetable changes!

On Sunday, July 6th, the eagerly awaited Christopher Street Day (CSD) will take place in Cologne. The day not only promises a colorful parade, but also some changes to local public transport, which the Cologne Transport Company (KVB) has carefully considered. According to t-online.de, light rail service on line 1 between “Junkersdorf” and “Bahnhof Deutz/Messe” will be increased to every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This would allow those arriving to the parade to be more relaxed.

The start of the CSD parade is planned for 11.30 a.m. in Deutz. The route leads over the Deutzer Brücke, Heumarkt, Gürzenich, Neumarkt, Mittelstrasse, Hohenzollernring, Magnusstrasse and finally to thezeughausstrasse to the Andreaskloster - close to the iconic Cologne Cathedral. During the parade there will probably be disruptions on the tram lines 1, 7 and 9 in the Deutzer Bridge area between 12 and 3 p.m. Although there is no planned need for separation, separations may occur depending on the situation for safety reasons, as stadtwerkekoeln.de reports.

Public transport on the move

In addition to the changes to light rail service, bus service will also be affected. Lines 136 and 146 may be rerouted from “Moltkestrasse” via a replacement stop at “Rudolfplatz”. Visitors should remember that the “Neumarkt” stop will not be used if they are disabled. In order to increase the space capacity on the buses, the KVB uses articulated buses on these routes all day to ensure there is enough space.

The KVB recommends a CSD ticket specially introduced for the event at a price of 23.60 euros. This ticket is valid from Friday, July 4th, 2 p.m. to Monday, July 7th, 3 a.m., throughout the Rhein-Sieg Transport Association (VRS) and can be purchased as a mobile phone ticket or in online format. The Deutschlandticket, which can also be used on local transport, offers alternative travel options. This means that travelers remain flexible on their way to the CSD and back.

A look into the future

Cologne is not only known for the CSD, but is also committed to the further development of local public transport. As part of the currently applicable 3rd local transport plan, which was decided on July 11, 2017, various measures to modernize the transport system are defined. This plan aims to improve the quality of services and provides the framework for future developments in public transport, such as route and stop expansion and fleet renewal. These developments are crucial in order to meet the needs of citizens and to make public transport in Cologne even more attractive in the future, as the city of Cologne explains here.

With these precautions and the colorful diversity of the CSD, you can be sure that Sunday in Cologne will be a great success. So if you want to head to the pageant and the celebrations, you should take care of tickets and transport well in advance!
