Dransdorf Fire Department celebrates 125 years of heroic deeds and cheers!

In the spirit of tradition and commitment, the Dransdorf fire department celebrated a proud anniversary on June 29, 2025: 125 years of service to the public. The festival, which was opened by the fire-fighting unit leaders Jochem Weinstock and Michael Dernen, attracted numerous guests to Siemensstrasse 244 in Bonn. Mayor Katja Dörner did not miss the opportunity to convey the city's greetings and at the same time to ceremoniously inaugurate the new fire station extension.

With modern changing and sanitary rooms covering an area of 93 square meters, the fire department is now spatially equipped for the future. This investment of 725,000 euros includes not only the extension but also the renovation of the existing vehicle hall. The restored historical flag, which was blessed by Deacon Ralf Knoblauch during a service, is remarkable. This flag, which could only be restored in 2024 after a break-in, is an important symbol of fire service history.

Youth fire brigade and tradition

Another highlight of the celebration was the look back at the 55-year history of the youth fire department. In an impressive extinguishing exercise, the young people demonstrated how quickly they are able to put out a fire, in this case that of a wooden house. The youth fire department is not only an important element of the fire department, but also offers young people the opportunity to take on responsibility and get to know the tasks of a firefighter. There are currently 14 young people involved in the Dransdorf fire department.

The popular duck race also took place traditionally: 500 rubber ducks swam down the Dransdorfer Bach, and the lucky winners could look forward to e-scooters, smartphones and smartwatches. Physical well-being was also taken care of; The Bönnsche Imbiss provided the necessary food with its tasty curry sausages.

Here’s to the next 125 years!

The Dransdorf Fire Department, founded in 1900, is one of a total of 18 units of the Bonn Volunteer Fire Department. There have been many notable events in the last 125 years, including a dramatic cloudburst in 1970. At that time, firefighters were surprised by rising floodwaters during a heavy rain and had to escape through a roof hatch. But these challenges have also strengthened the community and strengthened the commitment of the emergency services.

Head of Department Jochen Stein took the opportunity to carry out numerous promotions, with fire inspector Jochem Weinstock being awarded the North Rhine-Westphalia Fire Department Medal of Honor in Silver. Such awards are a sign of recognition for the tireless efforts of firefighters who do more than just a job - they are part of a large family that is committed to helping those around them.

This anniversary celebration was an impressive sign of the connection and spirit of solidarity that has characterized the Dransdorf fire department for over a century. There is no doubt: security and community will continue to be ensured with a good hand here in the future.
