Delays and cancellations: rail chaos between Siegen and Cologne!

Today, Thursday, June 5, 2025, problems on the railway line from Siegen to Cologne caused distress for many travelers. As the Siegerland newspaper Reportedly, there were disruptions between Cologne main station and Cologne Messe/Deutz. The urgently needed repairs to the route were completed around 8:15 p.m., but in some cases travelers have to expect delays and partial cancellations.

The causes of the current problems lie in the extensive modernization work on the railway infrastructure that has been carried out between Siegen and Cologne since September 2024. A necessary step

This work is part of a comprehensive program to modernize and renew the rail infrastructure in Germany. The future of rail transport

In order to ensure the quality of rail transport and increase punctuality, the federal government is also planning to reform the route pricing system. The aim is to make funds available next year for path price subsidies in long-distance rail passenger transport and rail freight transport. In addition, the electrified route network is constantly growing and is expected to grow by a further 70 kilometers by the end of 2025.
