New residential project in Porz-Ensen: 20 units directly on the Rhine!

A new chapter in housing development is opening in Cologne-Porz. The construction project of the renowned is starting directly near the Rhine, on Hohe Straße Fiorentino Bauträger GmbH, which provides for an apartment building with 20 residential units. The exact location of the attractive new building project is between the judo club and a quarry stone wall in the direction of the towpath. The area is currently used as the private green space of the adjacent two-story villa, apart from a small garden pavilion on the site.

The planning of this new residential complex follows on from the urban planning competition “Living by the River” from 2007, the winning design of which came from the Michels architectural firm. The design is implemented as a predominantly three-story, horseshoe-shaped complex that opens harmoniously towards the Rhine. A special design element is the continuation of the existing quarry stone wall.

Inspection of the development plan

Citizens have until June 13th to view the draft development plan. This inspection takes place in the city planning office of the city of Cologne in the town hall, Willy-Brandt-Platz 2. The opening times are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you would like to make an appointment outside of these times, you can do so by telephone at 0221/221-22806 or by email. There is also the option of viewing online participation-bauleitplanning.koeln.

But it's not just this construction project that's causing a stir in the region. Another, larger project is currently being planned nearby, which will provide a total of 160 apartments and a café. This design comes from the renowned architect David Chipperfield, who is known for his vision and has already been awarded the Pritzker Prize. A varied infrastructure with footpaths and cycle paths is planned here, supplemented by a car-free area.

What do you expect from such complex new construction projects? An inviting city park is to be created that extends from Kölner Straße to the banks of the Rhine. This not only expands the living space, but also creates a harmonious living environment. There is political support from the Greens and the CDU, while the SPD expresses concerns. The costs for these projects are high and the exact amount has not yet been determined, which could delay implementation for several years.

Conclusion

The projects in Porz-Ensen show how Cologne districts can develop further and create urgently needed living space. Citizens are invited to actively participate in the planning process and exchange their opinions. The new residential development will not only improve the district, but will also make an important contribution to the quality of life in Cologne.
