Cologne's OB candidate Aymaz calls for Revolution in homeless help!
Ehrenfeld, Deutschland - Homelessness in Cologne is a topic that touches many people. As part of a survey, Express.de asked the Cologne population about their experiences with homelessness and bed. The answers confirm that there is a growing problem that requires urgent attention. Berivan Aymaz, the 52-year-old OB candidate of the Greens, critically comments and emphasizes that living is a fundamental human right.
"It can be seen bitter how many people live on the street in Cologne," said Aymaz. At least 300 people are currently affected, many without access to protection, medical care or security. Her demands are clear: the city urgently needs to work on the further development of the help system. This includes the expansion of Housing-first programs that are seen as a promising solution for homelessness.
Housing first and its meaning
The "Housing First" concept aims to first offer homeless people permanent accommodation before devoting themselves to other social problems. In Cologne, the sponsors of homeless help show great interest in the implementation of this support program for social inclusion homeless people. By creating permanent living space, these people should be integrated into society again by serving a stable home as the basis for building a social network. This was also highlighted as part of a reporting reimbursement of Deutschlandfunk Kultur
But the challenges are considerable: by 2030, the federal government is planning to overcome homelessness in Germany, and indicated 263,000 homeless people during the homeless report from January 2022. The reasons for this are the lack of affordable living space, rising rents and insufficient construction of new apartments. The city of Cologne has to devote itself to these challenges in order to really help those affected.
funding and support
In order to support the sponsors of homeless help, funding is required that are made available in the start-up phase of the Housing-First approach. It is expected that a stable care system is created that is able to bill aids according to § 67 SGB XII.
aymaz also refers to the need to provide specific support for women who live on the street. She speaks for more street work and flexible, 24 hours available with privacy. "We must not see repressive measures as a solution," said Aymaz. Instead, a preventive system is needed that supports people before sliding into homelessness.
So there is a lot in motion in Cologne, and it turns out: In order to say the homelessness, various approaches and strategies have to go hand in hand.Details | |
