Fortuna Cologne dismantles SC Wißkirchen: 9-0 in the first test match!

Fortuna Cologne achieved a remarkable victory in the first friendly match of the season against district league team SC Wißkirchen. With an impressive 9-0 win this Wednesday, coach Matthias Mink's team gave a first glimpse of the coming regional league season. The new players shone, scoring all the goals for Fortuna, while around 250 spectators attended the spectacle. Review online reports that despite the high margins, the coach self-critically assessed the performance and the field conditions afterwards.

The first goal came in the 5th minute when Luca Majetic headed in. Just a minute later, Enzo Wirtz converted a penalty to make it 2-0. Hamadi Al Ghaddioui, who celebrated three times, increased the score to 5-0 in the 12th minute and further actions. In the second half all players were substituted, but the scoring continued. In the 61st minute, Suheyel Najar fired a shot from 18 meters, followed by Carter Mabson's solo run that made it 8-0 in the 67th minute. Najar sealed the final score of 9-0 with his second goal in the 81st minute.

Focus on the new season

Less than two weeks before the start of the 2024/25 Regional League season, Fortuna Cologne still has a lot planned. According to a report by Kicker The team is satisfied with the current level of development, but coach Mink emphasizes that the squad planning has not yet been completely completed. New signing Hendrik Mittelstädt in particular is expected to strengthen the storm center, where a vacuum was created last season.

But Fortuna is also better positioned defensively. With Robin Afamefuna, who can play in the center of defense as well as on the left side, the club has gained additional potential. Mink is optimistic that winger Kingsley Sarpei will return in time for the league opener against SV Rödinghausen on July 27th.

Successful start to the season with the Rhine Cup

The team received an additional boost of motivation by winning the “Rhein Cup” in Monheim. Here Fortuna Cologne prevailed in an exciting blitz tournament against 1. FC Monheim, Türkspor Dortmund and the U21s of 1. FC Cologne. In the semi-final, Cologne won 3-0 against Dortmund, with Stipe Batarilo-Cerdic and Mittelstädt scoring the goals. In the final they won 2-0 against the FC reserves, which underlines the positive development of the team. These successes show that Fortuna Cologne is on the right track and wants to do well in the league.

The next test match against TuS Koblenz is scheduled for next Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Schlossparkstadion Brühl. The fans can be curious to see how the team will invest in the game after this direct hit. The anticipation for the new season is palpable among players and supporters.
