Festival of Cultures in Chorweiler: A colorful spectacle at Pariser Platz!
The Festival of Cultures in Chorweiler will be celebrated on Sunday, June 15th at Pariser Platz and promises a colorful spectacle with over 30 participating clubs, institutions and establishments. Residents can look forward to numerous stalls offering typical local specialties and various activities. From presentations of projects to games to offerings that reflect the heart of the district, there is something for everyone. There is also a local flea market, where you can find many bargains, and the opportunity to get hold of rare treasures, as Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports.
The festival will be opened at 11 a.m. by district mayor Reinhard Zöllner, who will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Chorweiler district council in his speech. A fanfare consisting of the Merkenich Musketeers introduces the stage program. On this stage, in addition to Hungarian folk dances, visitors can look forward to either an Indian dance group or a performance by rap and hip hop artists. A very special highlight of the festival will be the performance of Marie Enganemben, a gospel singer from Cameroon. The festival concludes with the Chorweiler Evening Peace, which is led by the New Apostolic Community.
A celebration for all generations
This year the festival will not only be enriched by cultural performances, but also by the election to the advisory board of the Chorweiler Community Center. Ten candidates will introduce themselves to residents aged 16 and over who are eligible to vote. Votes can be cast at the community center stand. This is an excellent opportunity for citizens to have a say in the programming of the community center, as [Yahoo Nachrichten](https://de.nachrichten.yahoo.com/fest-kulturen-chorweiler- Feiern-menschen-103242870.html) notes.
The district council even made 4,000 euros available for the festival from its own funds. Prominent political faces such as Inan Gökpinar (SPD) and Wilfried Neumann (CDU) are also on site and show their commitment to the local community. The Festival of Cultures has been organized by the community center for 39 years and is therefore an integral part of the three-day district festival in Chorweiler-Mitte. The fair on Liverpooler Platz and the local flea market on Lyoner Passage complement the celebrations, so that everything your heart desires is on offer!
Colorful diversity and creative impulses
The diversity of the participating groups is remarkable. In addition to established associations such as the Eritrean Cultural Association and the Ditib Mosque, there are also new participants such as the GAG social team and the citizens' platform “Stark” from Worringen. These cultural gatherings not only promote social cohesion, but are also important sources of inspiration for urban development. This underpins the study by Mag. Edgar Eller, which shows how cultural festivals in smaller cities can strengthen the quality of stay and the identity of a district, as Stadtmarketing highlights.
The festival not only celebrates cultural diversity, but also strengthens cohesion within the community. Whether enjoying sesame curls and baklava offered by the Nar association or visiting the puppet theater - there is something for everyone, and it remains to be hoped that this festival will help to further show and promote Chorweiler's identity-forming potential.
