Hit-and-run at Deutzer Hafen: Police are looking for witnesses to the accident!

An incident in the Deutz harbor on Tuesday, June 10th caused a stir and, according to police reports, resulted in worrying injuries to a walker. At around 4:30 p.m., a 61-year-old man was on the footpath and bike path between the Rhine and the “Deutzer Hafen” playground in Cologne-Deutz when he was injured by a car. The driver of the vehicle, an elderly man, then fled the scene of the accident.

The Cologne police are therefore looking for witnesses and describe the suspected driver as around 70 to 75 years old, white-haired and wearing glasses. The vehicle they were looking for was a dark SUV, possibly a BMW, with a Cologne license plate. Information reports that the driver was driving illegally on the sidewalk and cycle path and when turning around, he hit a wall shortly before Alfred-Schhütte-Allee. This collision left the passenger side with accidental damage. After the incident, the car rolled over the 61-year-old's foot, who then suffered minor injuries and had to be treated in a clinic. The driver continued his journey towards the Deutzer Bridge.

Police call for witnesses

The Cologne police ask anyone who has information about the incident to contact Traffic Commissioner 2 on 0221 229-0 or via email to poststelle.koeln@polizei.nrw.de. Important information is needed to clarify the identity of the fleeing driver and to avoid further possible accidents in the region.

Traffic accident statistics are an important tool for promoting road safety and preventing accidents. An analysis shows that many accidents, especially in urban areas, are due to unsafe driving practices. According to the Cologne police data koeln.polizei.nrw, it is crucial to take every tip seriously. The aim is to better understand the causes of accidents and to develop suitable measures for road safety.

Driving behavior under the microscope

It also becomes clear how important it is to be aware of the risks of accidents in road traffic. The data collected is not only fundamental to effective traffic policy, but also helps to develop targeted traffic education programs that target accident hotspots.

In the hope of a quick resolution of this incident and fewer traffic accidents in Cologne, the authorities are also asking for further support from the population. Every tip can help increase safety on our city's streets.
