Drama in front of the disco: 18-year-old seriously injures three people!
Early on Sunday morning, June 29th, there was a terrible incident in front of a discotheque on Rolshover Straße in Cologne-Poll. An 18-year-old who was driving his Opel Corsa is said to have hit three people. The injured include a 20-year-old woman and two men aged 32 and 40. They were taken to a clinic with some serious injuries, reports the Cologne City Gazette.
The incident occurred after an argument when a 23-year-old threw a glass bottle at the 18-year-old, breaking his rear window. Police took both the 18-year-old and the 23-year-old who started the argument into custody. Concerned nightclub security staff tried to stop the driver with gas through the open car window before the police arrived. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old lost consciousness after his arrest and had to be taken to a clinic, where a blood sample was taken to check for suspected alcohol and drug consumption.
Alcohol on the road
The situation highlights the problem of drunk driving, which remains a serious issue in Germany. According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 2.4 million accidents occurred on German roads in 2022, many of them alcohol-related. The data of the Federal Statistical Office show how seriously this point should be taken and how important preventive measures are to avoid such tragic incidents.
The police secured evidence at the scene of the accident with their traffic accident investigation team, and the investigation is continuing. Given the severity of the injuries, it is expected that the legal consequences for the 18-year-old will be significant. Cologne police will release further information in the coming days to keep the public updated on the status of the investigation.
The incident shows once again how quickly a night out in a discotheque can end in disaster. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all those injured a speedy and good recovery.
