Church cycles for climate protection: 42 participants and over 2,700 km!
The excitement in Cologne was great when the Evangelical Church Association took part in the city bike for the first time. In the city, this competition is now an exciting tradition that serves to promote cycling and climate protection. Today we look at the results of this campaign, which takes place from May 1st to September 30th and this year with a participation of 42 enthusiastic cyclists: can come up in the region. The goal? Set a strong sign for environmentally friendly mobility.
Overall, the group "Church Radelt" covered an impressive 2,700 kilometers and thus cuts off quite a bit in the urban competition: 49th place is a solid debut for the first time. City superintendent Bernhard Seiger is optimistic and plans to win more than 100 participants in the coming year. "There is something," he says, because to get more people on the bike also means a contribution to fewer CO2 emissions in Cologne.
hardworking cyclists: awarded the inside
The performance of the most hard -working cyclists: inside of this action was particularly outstanding. Thomas König leads the field and covered the largest route with 1,175 km. "For me, cycling is a connection to nature and a sustainable lifestyle," he emphasizes proudly. Places two and three go to Britta Brill with 800 km and Kirstin Schmied with 746 km. Britta describes the contagious enthusiasm that she experienced in the circle of acquaintances, while Kirstin emphasizes the relaxing aspects of cycling. These individual experiences show that cycling is more than just locomotion - it is a lifestyle!
But one thing is clear: participation in the city cycling is not only fun, it also has a serious goal. Because in traffic, a fifth of climate-damaging CO2 emissions in Germany cause. In urban areas, it is even a quarter of CO2 emissions of all traffic. In 30% of the short -haul routes up to six kilometers, around 7.5 million tons of CO2 could be avoided by switching to bicycle. An incentive that can be seen!
outlook for the future
for the Evangelical Church Association is far from being enough. "We are already planning an expansion of the project for 2026," says Seiger. A cooperation with the Catholic Church in Cologne is also on the plan. Together you want to further strengthen the movement for more bicycle traffic and climate protection. The city cycling campaign, which has been running since 2008, also has the clear goal of moving more people to switch to bike in everyday life. Anyone who lives, works, works or attending a school can become part of this initiative and found their own team or join an existing one.
In total, the experiences and success of the first participation of the Evangelical Church Association are very encouraging. The gratifying participation gives hope that more and more people will find fun cycling and thus actively create something for climate protection. All the more we can look forward to the next round city bike in Cologne!Details | |
