On Sunday night there was a dramatic incident in Charlottenburg that agitated people. A 38-year-old startled a seller in a late night sale by threatening him with a knife. The incident began with a verbal argument on Guerickestrasse, during which two parties clarified their differences. But instead of calming himself down with words, the attacker first grabbed a cigarette stand, which he wanted to use against the seller.

A friend of the seller rushed over to help. Unfortunately, he was held in check by two other men and even hit in the face. About an hour after the first incident, the attacker returned, this time with a knife in his hand. The seller was deeply frightened and fled, but alerted his shopkeeper. He quickly came to the rescue with a baseball bat to get the situation under control.

The confrontation with the police

When the police arrived, the 38-year-old was no longer able to express his anger without further offense. He threw his knives under parked cars, but the police were quickly there and caught the attacker. Interestingly, the man had around two per mille of alcohol in his blood and was then taken to hospital. It is noteworthy that the police found both a folding knife and a hunting knife with a 16 cm long blade.

Despite the dramatic incident, the seller was uninjured, a fortunate circumstance in an otherwise frightening scenario. The officers have now handed over the investigation to a specialist commissioner from Directorate 2 (West). In addition to the person primarily responsible, two other men were also identified as accomplices, but they were released after a short time.
