There's a lot going on in Cologne on the last weekend in September: from culinary masterpieces to thrilling film screenings - the event program has something to offer for every taste. The street food festival takes place in Ehrenfeld, where international dishes are served. Foodies and connoisseurs are invited to try the delicacies from the various stands until Sunday, September 28th. The halls at Oskar-Jäger-Straße 192 open on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Entry costs 4 euros, children up to 12 years old can enter for free, and four-legged friends are also welcome on a leash.
But that's not all: the 22nd African Film Festival also welcomes cinema lovers until Sunday. It shows more than 65 films from over 20 African countries and offers a diverse program that includes feature films, documentaries and short films. The film will be shown at Filmforum NRW, Rex Kino and Lichtspiele Kalk, among others. Ticket prices vary depending on the event: regular tickets are available for 7 euros and reduced prices for 5 euros. A festival pass costs 40 euros, reduced price 30 euros, and entry is even free for refugees. The opening event addresses topics of cultural identity and social responsibility and highlights courageous directors and extraordinary works. The filmmaker Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese is the patron, and the supporting program includes creative dialogues and workshops.
Another highlight: Cologne Knits
The “Cologne Knits” event will also take place in the Residenz cinema on Saturday. Film fans can knit or crochet together in the foyer from 12.30 p.m. while enjoying a surprise film. The film is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and tickets for the artistic activities are available at a price of 12 to 15 euros. Social interaction and artistic creation are on the agenda here.
Rock and rhythm in the Lanxess Arena
Things get rocky on Saturday evening: The Danish band Volbeat attracts numerous fans to the Lanxess Arena with their “Greatest of all Tours” concert. It starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are available from 84 euros. The mix of well-known hits and new songs promises an unforgettable stage show.
