New bus stop at Fühlinger See: Improvement for mobility!
The Fühlinger See, a popular local recreation area for Cologne residents and visitors, is a real gem in summer for those seeking relaxation and sports enthusiasts. The regatta course not only offers excellent training conditions for rowers and canoeists, but also attracts many walkers who want to enjoy nature. However, getting to the regatta track is currently quite inconvenient for many visitors, especially for people with limited mobility, as Bachhausen reports.
The walk from the nearest bus stops “Oranjehofstraße” and “Seeberg” is between 15 and 20 minutes, which is a major challenge for many. In order to counteract this problem, the SPD parliamentary group in the Chorweiler district council has submitted an application to examine a new bus stop near parking lot P1. This initiative received a positive response at the last meeting, although non-partisan district representative Lilo Heinrich expressed concerns about the need for an additional stop.
Improved connectivity for everyone
Norbert Schott from the CDU emphasizes that initially it is only a matter of examining feasibility. Ayfer Sevim from the SPD made it clear that the application left open how the connection could be improved. In addition to a new stop, more frequent bus routes are also being considered. The application was ultimately approved without changes, but the SPD has not yet provided any further information or public communication about the next steps.
For those who do not rely on public transport, traveling by car remains the most convenient option. Fühlinger See is easy to reach via the A1 federal motorway, Cologne-Fühlingen junction. Parking spaces are available, especially at parking lot P1, where visitors can get directly to the “rowing island,” as the Cologne Regatta Association explains.
Sporting variety at Fühlinger See
But it's not just rowing that's the focus here! A newly installed slackline system in the starting area of the regatta course delights athletes and visitors alike. This extraordinary sport promotes balance and concentration and was developed in collaboration with the Slackline Köln e. V. realized. The selection of slacklines ranges from short, tightly stretched straps to demanding longlines of up to 50 meters, so there is something for everyone. This project is part of the sports development planning, which aims to create free exercise opportunities in public spaces. The Chorweiler district council supported the installation with 20,000 euros, as the City of Cologne reports.
With the new bus stop and the diverse sporting offerings, Fühlinger See has the potential to attract even more people into nature and offer a varied experience in the heart of Cologne. For many, this neighborhood could soon become a second home for sports and relaxation.
