RWE youth meets BVB and Bochum – excitement in the new DFB groups!

The starting signal for the second season of the reformed DFB youth leagues will be given in August 2025, and Rot-Weiss Essen (RWE) will once again be on the ball with its U17 and U19 teams. The DFB game management has now announced the preliminary round groups, which promise an exciting and balanced league. This was confirmed by rot-weiss-essen.de, where the details for both the U19 and U17 can be found.

A total of 65 clubs compete in the U19, including 59 teams with a performance center. There are 63 teams in the U17, 59 of which also have a performance center. The division of the groups was carried out with great care in order to ensure both sporting balance and short driving distances.

Group division and opponents

The RWE U19 will be really challenged in Group H, where they have to compete against well-known opponents. The following teams are on the schedule:

  • Bayer 04 Leverkusen
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • FSV Frankfurt
  • SV Wehen Wiesbaden
  • TSV Schott Mainz
  • VfL Bochum

In addition, the U17 from Rot-Weiss Essen also plays in Group H and faces:

  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Schalke 04
  • Viktoria Köln
  • Preußen Münster
  • Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
  • SV Meppen
  • VfL Bochum

Competitive structure

After the winter break, the season will continue in League A and B. In the U17, places 1 to 3 qualify for League A, while teams placed 4 to 8 will compete in League B. In the U19 it's about qualifying for League A, where the two best teams in each group and the six best third-placed teams have to prevail. All other teams are divided into League B, which is supplemented by up to eleven promoted teams from the second highest divisions. This adds extra thrill as teams have to fight for promotion. This structure was explained in detail by dfb.de.

With a look at the table of the U19 DFB youth league, RWE fans can look forward to the upcoming games. It remains to be hoped that both young teams can play to their strengths and cause a sensation.
