Double setback for Bayer Giants: two defeats in a row!

The basketball season started with twice bitter defeats for the Bayer Giants Leverkusen. Last weekend the Giants had to play two games in the Pro A in the second basketball Bundesliga and couldn't even get a win. They lost 63:68 against second-placed Göttingen on Saturday, while the disgrace was even more evident on Sunday with a 71:97 defeat against Gießen. Both games took place in front of around 1,350 spectators in the Ostermann Arena, who certainly hoped for more from their team.

In the first game, the Giants showed a rather mixed performance, especially offensively. Despite strong defensive work - Göttingen didn't have it easy and only managed 68 points - Leverkusen were unable to score a single basket in the last four minutes. Ricardo Lynch, Donte Nicholas and Dennis Heinzmann delivered solid performances, but it wasn't enough to turn things around. The injury to John Williams Junior in the 37th minute was particularly painful, which further weakened the Giants' lineup.

Bad luck with injuries and failures

The bad luck with injuries did not remain with Williams alone. In the game against Giessen, Kobe Langley was also out in the 18th minute, followed by Sebastian Brach. Coach Mike Koch only had seven players available, which made the already difficult situation even more difficult. The game started evenly, but Giessen got serious and made it 44:36 by halftime. The Giants couldn't withstand the pressure and the Giessen team pulled away with crisp three-point throws.

The results of the two games show the harsh reality: Nicholas was able to score 18 points against Göttingen, while Heinzmann and Lynch added 15 and 11 points. On Sunday, the performances were severely affected by the absence of Williams and the injuries to various players. Overall, the team was not able to exploit its full potential and is now ranked in the bottom half of the table.
