Köln, Deutschland - Univ.-Prof. Dr. Roland Goldbrunner, director of the clinic and polyclinic for neurosurgery at the University Hospital Cologne, has reached a new milestone in his career. With his election as President of the German Society for Surgery. V. (DGCH) for the term of office 2025/26, he will not only play an important role in the German healthcare system, but also represent the interests of around 22,000 members. This society is the central voice of all surgical disciplines in Germany, and Goldbrunner wants to increase the visibility of the surgical professions in politics, especially towards the Federal Ministry of Health. According to UNIKLINIK Cologne , the promotion of the new president is the promotion of the scientific excellence in the surgical Research.

"Surgical research has to be brought into the spotlight more," emphasizes Goldbrunner. This visibility is more important than ever, since many surgical disciplines, in particular the translational and clinical areas, do not experience the same update compared to other disciplines. The 143rd German Surgery Congress (DCK), which Goldbrunner is responsible for together with the President of the DGAV and DGKJCH, will offer a platform to present current research and developments as well as to promote young scientists.

Information also comes from healthcare in Europe and the German Society for Surgery .

Goldbrunner can look back on an impressive career. His scientific focus lies in neuro -oncological surgery and spine surgery. He also leads the neuro -oncological tumor center and is the spokesman for the spine center at the Cologne University Hospital. He now brings these expertise into his new function and plans to establish the DCK as a central platform for surgical research and the promotion of young people.

In his free time, Goldbrunner does sporty and devotes himself to rowing, running and sailing. This shows that he has a good hand not only at work, but also privately to keep the balance between work and joie de vivre.
