Impulse Festival 2025: A cultural exchange between East and West!
A very special event is imminent! From June 18 to July 6, 2025, the impulses Festival, one of the most important festival for the Free Theater Scene in German -speaking countries, will take place in the cities of Mülheim an der Ruhr, Cologne and Düsseldorf. The NRW cultural secretariat has already been behind this festival for over 30 years, which is artistically managed in its new festival edition by Franziska Werner.
Overall, the art scene expects a newly designed program, which in each of the three cities are kept a week from a jury selected production of the show case and the focus topic "Post-West". This program area promotes the exchange between Eastern and West Germany and offers artists: inside the opportunity to tell their different perspectives and stories.

The variety of pieces shown is impressive: around 500 productions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were spotted to select the best stories for the festival. Artists deal with urgent social issues, often linked to personal experiences. The core of the work ranges from Hendrik Quast's reflection to his hair transplant to Simone Dede Ayivi and her team, who take a close look at the causes of precarious living.
The culinary journey of discovery that Jaha Koo integrates into his performance and beat the bridge between South Korea and Europe are particularly exciting. In her work, Claire Cunningham deals with topics such as grief and beauty, while Joana Tischkau and Rabih Mroué with her critical looks at home stories and freedom of expression to initiate current debates.Impulse meets ... and much more
A third program area "Impulse meets ..." workshops, discursive formats and parties include and invites all participants to exchange ideas. From a VR work that opens up digital worlds, to a documentary to war trauma by the studio urbanistan-the range of content shows how important art is as a means of communication in our time.
The events in Düsseldorf take place in the FFT and in the clean room. A highlight of the festival is the grand finale, which is celebrated from July 3rd to 6th. On July 5 from 10:30 p.m. the final party will take place in the clean room and promises to become a real festival of encounter and creative exchange.
