Bicycle demos in Cologne: Hürth becomes a hotspot for cycling activists!

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, the next big bicycle demo will take place in Cologne and the surrounding area. The "Kidical Mass" is attracting children and families again to work for better conditions for cyclists. Together, Hürth cycles from Hürth via Widdersdorf and Weiden to the Cologne city center to the final rally on the Heumarkt. The event will be organized from Otto-Räcke-Platz in Hürth, and the participants start from noon after they have gathered there.

The rally on the hayarkt will end around 4.30 p.m. and should draw attention to the needs of cyclists, especially children and families. The "Kidical Mass" demands more security on the streets, and the motto "Streets are there for everyone" is particularly emphasized in this context. The aim is to bring about a rethink in transport policy and to promote child -friendly mobility in the cities. In Cologne, traffic restrictions and road closures in the affected areas are therefore also expected, which could lead to traffic disabilities, especially around Otto-Räcke-Platz, as [Radio Erft] (https://www.radioerft.de/artikel/huerthoeln-verkehrnenchenkungen- Dierwraddemos-2350771.html).

a nationwide phenomenon

The "Kidical Mass" has become increasingly important in recent years and takes place every year in spring and autumn not only in Germany, but also worldwide. This year, too, numerous bicycle demos are planned during the campaign period from May 5th to 25th. In autumn 2024, for example, around 120 ADFC structures already participated in the actions that occur for a continuous and safe cycle path network.

The initiators of the "Kidical Mass", which was launched in Oregon, USA, still campaigned for a child -friendly cycling infrastructure. Her demands are clear: Tempo 30 on main roads, protected cycle paths and school roads without through traffic are just a few of the points on the agenda. The initiative is supported by a large number of organizations, including the ADFC, Greenpeace and the German Children's Aids, such as cycling.de.

The needs of children in focus

Especially with regard to safe way to school and the mobility of children, the demand for a better traffic infrastructure is more urgent than ever. Challenges such as confusing intersections or full roads often make it difficult to bring their children safely through the city. "Kidical Mass" addresses exactly these topics and transforms the event into a festival: In the event of music and soap bubbles, the participants move through the streets and show that safety in road traffic should not be an unattainable goal.

In this regard, it is important that the municipalities also contribute their part by creating safe bike paths and child -friendly mobility solutions. The approach of introducing temporary school streets and special bicycle buses shows that there are solutions that have already been successfully tested. The courage to demand such changes lies in the hands of citizens, especially the families who take to the streets with the "Kidical Mass".

Overall, not only the organizers, but also the residents are looking forward to a colorful family outing through the city, which hopefully many reaches with its message and contributes to safe mobility, so that the path to school and to leisure activities for the little ones in our society becomes safer.

The anticipation for the "Kidical Mass" in Cologne on June 15, 2025 is great - and the message is clear: it is up to all of us to fight for the security and quality of life of all generations. Every pedaling participant counts to set a sign of a better infrastructure, as parental newspaper emphasizes.
