Glitter and glamor in Cologne: The German Television Award 2025 is coming up!
The coming days in Cologne promise to be exciting! On Wednesday, September 10th, the German Television Prize will be awarded in the Coloneum. A traditional event that has been launched since 1999 by ARD, RTL, Sat.1 and ZDF to honor outstanding television achievements. The charming Barbara Schöneberger will host the show, which will be broadcast on ZDF at 8:15 p.m. Interestingly, the award ceremony will be recorded from 6:30 p.m., but will not be broadcast live on television DWDL reported. However, a live stream from the red carpet offers a glimpse into the glamorous atmosphere of the event.
This year, numerous celebrities are represented on the jury, including Laura Karasek, Valerie Niehaus and Collien Ulmen-Fernandes. It is noteworthy that no production won more than one award in the last awards ceremony, which underlines the diversity of German television. The judges reviewed 700 hours of TV programs to select the best performances and the results are eagerly awaited.
Night of the Creatives honors the creators behind the scenes
Before the actual award ceremony, the “Night of the Creatives” takes place in the Flora the evening before. This event honors the people behind the scenes who make a significant contribution to the success of TV productions in the areas of writing, editing, camera work and music. This underlines how important everyone involved in the media industry is.
On September 13th and 14th, Cologne can also expect numerous activities as part of the Open Monument Day. Around 160 monuments open their doors, including the Roman burial chamber in Weiden and the Deutschlandfunk radio station, supplemented by guided tours, lectures and concerts. Last year the event attracted up to 25,000 visitors.
Another highlight: The Vivawest Family Festival
The Vivawest Family Festival will also be celebrated in the Tanzbrunnen on September 13th and 14th. The musicians Cat Ballou, Miljö and Joris can be seen on stage. This festival is ideal for the whole family and promises a varied program that will delight young and old.
It will also be sporty on September 14th, as the 43rd ASV Cologne bridge run will take place. A half marathon over 21.1 kilometers is offered with over 3,500 participants. 60 percent of these athletes have registered for the longer route. A shorter, fun 11.11 kilometer loop is also available.
Politics in focus: local elections are imminent
September 14th will be a day of decisions for Cologne citizens. Around 13.7 million people in North Rhine-Westphalia are called to vote, including 811,535 citizens in Cologne, who can elect their new mayor, a new council and new district representatives. Anyone who is at least 16 years old on election day and has been living in Cologne since the end of August is eligible to vote.
A total of 13 candidates stood for the mayoral election, including two individual independent candidates. To achieve a clear victory in the first round of voting, more than 50 percent of the vote is required. Under these circumstances, election day in Cologne promises not only political tension, but also strong citizen interest.
The next few days in Cologne have a lot to offer - cultural, sporting and political. One thing is certain: If you stay at home, you're missing out!
