Regional train 25 is back on the road – but Lüdenscheid is staying away!
On July 1, 2025, the Regionalbahn 25 (RB25) ran again between Cologne and Lüdenscheid after a two-year standstill, but the joy only lasted for a short time. That same morning, the section between Bruges and Lüdenscheid was closed again due to a defective signal. This reports come-on.de. The original return of the passengers had to be postponed again and again; Initially the closure was scheduled to last until 1 p.m., then extended to 3 p.m. and finally to 5 p.m. At the time of the closure, regional train 25 commutes alone to Bruges, where passengers are advised to use bus lines 134 or 47 to continue their journey to Lüdenscheid. A replacement rail service on Regionalbahn 52 is also available, although operations there will also be suspended until Friday due to track work.
But it's not just the section between Bruges and Lüdenscheid that causes excitement. Bridge work in Marienheide leads to a complete failure of all RB 25 trains between Marienheide and Lüdenscheid. This measure was already introduced on May 12, 2025 and extended until July 1, 2025. Replacement buses run from a newly established “Tannenbaum” stop (intersection of Kölner Str. / Volmestr.), but there is a problem for cyclists: for reasons of space, they cannot be taken on the buses. In addition, the stops for rail replacement services are not always located directly at the train stations, which causes confusion. However, directions to the SEV stops are available on bahnhof.de, as provided by vareo.de reported.
Current information and fault reports
If you want to stay up to date, we recommend taking a look at the interactive disruption map bahn.de, which provides an overview of current train cancellations and route interruptions. Here you can also track the real-time positions of trains and get local information about departure boards. There is also a delay alarm function that automatically notifies you if there are delays - a helpful mini app for commuters!
The current circumstances surrounding Regionalbahn 25 show that rail traffic does not always run smoothly. Anyone who still wants to use the connection between Cologne and Lüdenscheid should prepare for the construction work and, if necessary, consider alternative transport routes. With this in mind: secure the best seats on the buses and lots of patience on the region's roads!
