Cologne's police are taking tough action against drug and violent crime!

A clear signal is currently being sent against drug-related crime in Cologne. On Tuesday, July 8, an intensive, coordinated operation by civilian and uniformed police forces in the city center resulted in numerous arrests and the seizure of drugs. The control operations focused on hotspots such as Neumarkt, Josef-Haubrich-Hof, Fleischmengergasse as well as Ebertplatz and Eigelstein. According to reports from Rhenish advertising papers Up to 40 people from the open drug scene gathered at the Josef-Haubrich-Hof, and several people had to be sent off.

An argument on Fleischmengergasse in which four men were involved in an argument was particularly explosive. Two suspects, aged 30 and 34, were temporarily arrested. The police seized heroin and crack cocaine from them, which underlines the seriousness of the situation. A 26-year-old suspect in a theft was also caught in Theodor-Heuss-Park. The officers found crack and amphetamine on him, which directly points to his involvement in drug crime.

Suspicious activity and further arrests

The actions are part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking, violence and immigration violations. In the Eigelstein district, several drug dealers already known to the police were checked, and cannabis and suspected deal money were seized. Police remain present in the city and investigations into these cases continue.

At the same time, investigations are underway against a drug gang that was primarily active on Ebertplatz. The civilian emergency services confiscated WDR several kilograms of drugs and almost 130,000 euros in cash. The investigation, which has been carried out for several months under the direction of the “EG City” group, increased in intensity after a 24-year-old suspect was arrested red-handed in a drug deal in May 2024. At the time he was found with a large amount of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy in his luggage. The buyer, a 28-year-old, was also armed with drugs and cash.

Legal proceedings and consequences

A third protagonist, 34 years old, has also come into the investigators' sights. The searches of the 28-year-old and 34-year-old's apartments led to large amounts of drugs and the cash in question. Both the 24-year-old and the 28-year-old are now in custody, while an application for detention has also been filed against the 34-year-old. It turns out that the police not only take a close look at the street scene, but also the structures behind the drug trade.

With these measures, the police in Cologne are clearly showing that they have no tolerance for drug-related crime and the associated dangers. The city's citizens can rely on the state to take active action against such crimes and ensure greater security in public spaces.
