Cologne celebrates diversity: large demonstration for queer rights at CSD 2025!
On Sunday, July 6, 2025, Cologne city center will once again be the scene of the largest CSD demo in Germany and Europe. Under the motto "For Queer Rights - Many. Together. Strong!" Around 60,000 people gather to send a strong signal for visibility, human rights and acceptance of the queer community. An important concern, especially given the increasing anti-queer sentiment in Germany, which worries many. Ultimately, the organizers expect over a million visitors in total to join in the hustle and bustle. This impressive number could set a new record for the event.
It starts at 11:30 a.m. on the Deutzer Bridge, which is traditionally decorated with colorful balloons. The demo parade takes its route through various stations and moves through Schildergasse, Neumarkt, past Rudolfplatz and the Ringen to Comedy Street at Cologne Cathedral. In order to enable visitors to have smooth access to the demo, some road closures will be in effect from the day before. It is recommended to use public transport from the Cologne transport company, bicycle or walk to the city center.
Diverse participation and support
As colognepride.de reports, preparing for such a large event requires a lot of commitment. In addition to professional companies that are commissioned for large tasks such as set-up and dismantling, there are also numerous volunteers available to carry out smaller jobs. This includes hanging fence banners, setting up the production office and setting up umbrellas for shade.
To ensure that the parade is a complete success, all of these measures are of great importance. The joy and cohesion that can be felt during such events reminds many of last year's CSD on July 14, 2023, which achieved record-breaking numbers with over a million visitors and 200 groups. Participants and spectators enjoyed the great summer weather back then, which could return in 2025.
The CSD demo in Cologne is not just a celebration, but also an important step towards promoting acceptance in society. The message coming from Cologne is clear: Strong together, together for the rights of all! As such, this day marks a highlight of the year for the city and its residents.
