The Cologne Christmas Circus is a very special attraction during Advent and is now in its tenth year full of new features and highlights. From November 28th to January 4th, 2026, the Circus in Deutz invites you to take the audience into the magical world of the circus. Managing director Ilja Smitt and creative director Katja Smitt-Bondareva and their team have set themselves a big goal: a “well-composed overall experience” that delights young and old. Every evening promises to be an unforgettable experience.
The anniversary show offers a mixture of acrobatics, dance and clowning, with humorous, poetic and artistic moments intertwined. Over 60 artists from all over the world will be featured, including the renowned duo Butterfly from China, who will captivate viewers with impressive performances. Special highlight? A collective of artists that won the Golden Clown at the Circus Festival in Monte Carlo. They present the spectacular “Flying Icarian Games” at the Christmas Circus and bring 3,500 kilos of props with them from Wuhan.
A surprising musical journey
Music plays a central role in the show. Richard Kuntraj Henssen, who has been Katja Smitt-Bondareva's advisor for three years, has contributed some new compositions. The magical transformation of the love song “Hey Girl” into “Kaja Rhapsody” is just one example of his creative work. New arrivals for 2024 include the tracks “Memories of Times,” “Horizons of Mine,” and the brand new “Orient.” Eric Lensink ensures that the music is perfectly matched to the circus performances.
But it's not just the music that brings a breath of fresh air: the creative team develops numerous new costumes with a high level of quality and the best ideas. The first sketches are already available and promise to make the show even more colorful and impressive.
Tickets and setup
The construction of the impressive tent begins on November 8th, while tickets for the anniversary show are available from 19.50 euros. Special partner days are offered to make it easier for groups to access this experience. The number of visitors to the Cologne Christmas Circus has increased rapidly since its premiere in 2015: from 15,000 to 95,000 last year!
