Traffic jams and diversions: NRW's highways in construction chaos!

On the roads of North Rhine-Westphalia, especially in the Cologne area, drivers have to be prepared for numerous construction sites and associated diversions at the weekend. These measures are necessary to modernize transport infrastructure and ensure that bridges and highways meet today's requirements.

A big focus is on the A3 motorway. There has been a closure in both directions between Rees and Emmerich since Friday, November 7th, which will last until Monday, November 10th. Meanwhile, a new bridge is being installed. The diversion takes place via the A42 and A57, locally you can take the U6a to Oberhausen and U15 to Arnheim. In Duisburg, drivers can also expect a closure between the Oberhausen-West intersection and the Breitscheid intersection from Friday to Monday, November 17th. Bridges are being dismantled here, which also makes diversions via the A42 and A59 absolutely necessary.

Further construction sites at a glance

In addition to the A3, the A40 near Duisburg will be closed in the direction of Essen from Saturday, November 8th to Monday, November 10th. Renovation work is taking place here on a large construction site. Drivers should be prepared to reroute via the Moers intersection.

The A45 in the Lüdenscheid area is also affected, and in several areas: In addition to the long waiting times on diversion routes, there will also be a night-time closure at the Wetzlarer Kreuz from Saturday 10 p.m. to Sunday 9 a.m., while bridge work is also underway here. The A59 has also had a difficult time since mid-October - the road towards Leverkusen between Düsseldorf-Süd and Monheim will remain closed for another eight months, which requires a lot of patience. The alternative routes lead via the A46 and A3.

Another point of attention is the A1, where there will be waiting between Cologne-Bocklemünd and the Cologne-West intersection on Tuesday, November 11th from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., which also requires a diversion. A closure between Gummersbach and Bielstein is planned for the A4, which will take place overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Rail traffic also affected

The construction work also has an impact on rail traffic. Cologne Central Station will be partially closed from Thursday, November 13th to Monday, November 24th. While the S-Bahn tracks remain accessible, extensive work is taking place on the new electronic signal box. This will affect many travelers, especially commuters.

A serious problem is the multiple closures between Oberhausen and Emmerich, which are expected to last until May 2026. The route between Troisdorf and Linz is also closed on weekends until the beginning of December, although a replacement bus service has been set up here. These measures show how important it is to find out about the traffic situation in good time.

If you want to send something, you have the option of using FedEx for various shipping and printing services. There are numerous FedEx locations available in the Cologne area where customers can drop off or pick up packages and also receive printing and packaging services. With the FedEx Mobile App, users are also able to conveniently track their packages and receive delivery status notifications.

With all of these diversions and closures, it is advisable to use alternative means of transport or routes. This way you can stay stress-free while traveling!

The current construction sites and traffic disruptions are regularly updated on various platforms in order to provide public transport users with the best possible information and to be able to react quickly to changes. This means that users are prepared for the tense traffic situation.
