Last S13 construction phase begins: full closures between Bonn and Troisdorf!

From today, June 13, 2025, the rails between Cologne and Troisdorf really get down to business. Deutsche Bahn started with the last construction phase of the S13 that has it all. The work that not only affects tracks, but also bridges, train stations and noise barriers started at 8 p.m. The routes between Cologne Messe/Deutz, Troisdorf and Linz am Rhein are affected. Travelers have to prepare for changes to schedule, especially as far as the regional trains RE 8 and RB 27 are concerned, which run between Mönchengladbach and Koblenz via Troisdorf and Bonn.

The last construction work start in several phases: from June 13th to 16th, then again from June 20th to 23rd, followed by further closures to August. A full closure is planned for November 21 to 24, 2025. During these times, buses are used as a replacement for the trains and the timetables can be viewed in the online information systems of Deutsche Bahn. Particularly practical: Information is also on Bahn.de/service/bahrplaene and Zuginfo.nrw Available

effects on rail traffic

This construction work is only part of the large -scale modernization of the rail network in Germany. The ADAC notes that around 40 important sections will be extensively renovated by 2030 and partially blocked for months. The effects affect millions of passengers who have to adapt to massive impairments. Deutsche Bahn has set itself the goal of bringing the infrastructure up to scratch and thus improving the traffic performance in passenger and freight transport in the long term. An essential step towards a future -proof mobility!

The currently important large construction sites are not only limited to Cologne. From the Hamm - Hanover route to the work on the Knot Berlin, numerous track work is carried out, which restrict train traffic for months. This is done in a network of approx. 39,200 km, with Deutsche Bahn being the largest operator. Although traffic use in the rail area has grown steadily - since 1994 by over 50 percent in passenger transport and almost 90 percent in freight transport - the infrastructure is often overloaded. In fact, over 1,169 km of railways have already been overloaded by 2024, compared to only 187 km in 2008.

look into the future

The measures of Deutsche Bahn are a step in the right direction to make the rail infrastructure future -proof. By 2030, routes such as Troisdorf - Koblenz and Cologne - Bonn are also to be extensively expanded. The electrification of the rail network is also promoted to reduce the environmental impact. Currently, 62 percent of the federal rail network have already been electrified, with the aim of coming to 75 percent by 2030.

For commuters and travelers, this means that they will have to prepare for some inconvenience in the coming months. But with a little patience and the right planning you will also master this phase.
