Cologne celebrates diversity: CSD 2025 brings parties, parades and emotional debates!

Cologne is celebrating the big Cologne Pride event this weekend, which is already well underway. On Friday, July 5, 2025, the Queernight at the Heumarkt will attract a colorful mix of music acts and discussion groups. The atmosphere is excellent - but there are also some emerging discussions, such as those about rainbow flags and bans on participation, which weigh on the atmosphere a little. In response, Cologne has hung a huge banner on Schaafenstrasse that sends a strong signal of acceptance. The Federal Government's Queer Commissioner, Sophie Koch, also criticized the heated debates.

On Sunday, July 6, 2025, the CSD demo will start at 12:00 p.m. on the Deutzer Bridge and move through the city. Up to 60,000 registered participants are expected, and many thousands of spectators are expected along the way. The city of Cologne is also strongly represented; Employees from the administration and other city institutions are taking part for the seventh time and are setting an example for diversity and acceptance. Mayor Henriette Reker will open the parade and walk part of the route together with the municipal group. The Cologne fire department is also there and appears under the starting number 112, another sign of tolerance and cohesion.

Public transport and traffic measures

The Cologne transport company (KVB) has also prepared for the rush and is using additional trains, especially on line 1 between Junkersdorf and Deutz/Messe train station. Operations will also be increased between Niehl, Neumarkt and Koelnmesse. For all those who want to travel by public transport, there is the CSD ticket for 23.60 euros, valid in the Rhein-Sieg transport association. On Sunday there will even be special trains from the Ruhr area to Cologne.

The police are also well prepared: several hundred officers will be on duty to ensure security without any indication of danger. The Deutzer Bridge is also decorated in rainbow colors, where the city lets the flags fly in cooperation with ColognePride e.V.

With this celebration of diversity, Cologne shows that it can stand together even in challenging times. Cologne Pride attracts hundreds of thousands of national and international guests every year and will once again be a massive festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and their rights.
