250-kilo World War II bomb discovered in Berlin-Kladow – evacuation underway!

An eventful day in Berlin-Kladow! On June 11, 2025, a 250 kilogram aircraft bomb from the Second World War was discovered - right in a quiet corner of Breitehornweg. A forester drew attention to the dangerous cargo and immediately informed the police. They responded promptly and alerted the emergency services at 12:20 p.m. A few hours later, a 500-meter exclusion zone was set up around the site to ensure the safety of residents.

A total of around 90 people are affected by the evacuation; in addition to local residents, several allotment gardens and a therapeutic facility are also affected. The police announced that the detonator could not be defused on site. Instead, the bomb is detonated in a controlled manner by forensic scientists - the explosion is planned for the same day. Current information on defusing is provided via the police operations channel on X (formerly Twitter). This approach reflects the courageous actions of the authorities, who are always careful to prioritize the safety of citizens. Tixio reports that...

Affected areas and evacuation measures

“What’s going on in Berlin-Spandau?” you might ask. As if that wasn't enough, there were also significant impacts from other bomb disposals in Cologne. On the same day that the bomb was found in Berlin, further measures were necessary here. In the historic town hall in Cologne, 15 couples wanted to take the big step and get married. But these plans were thrown out by the authorities because a bomb defusal had to be carried out. For this reason, the weddings were quickly moved to the Porz district.

The situation in Cologne was tense: the security service checked all the streets in the evacuation area from 1:30 p.m. Urban contact points for evacuees have been set up, including exhibition hall 10.1 on the right side of the Rhine and the Humboldtstrasse vocational college on the left. Pets were also not allowed for safety reasons. The citizens' hotline was active here to inform affected citizens about the situation. There were also significant disruptions for rail passengers: numerous long-distance trains had to be rerouted and several connections had to be discontinued. WDR reports on the bomb situation in Cologne.

The preparations for defusing meant that the Hohenzollern Bridge was closed and Cologne main station could no longer be accessed from the direction of Deutz. Fortunately, the hospital in Berlin-Kladow was not affected by the situation, but it shows how far-reaching the consequences of such discoveries are. Not only in Berlin, but also in Cologne, citizens have to adapt to the circumstances and take the security measures into account.
