Off to the CSD parade: KVB increases traffic in Cologne on July 6th!

The streets of Cologne will be transformed into a colorful festival next Sunday, July 6th, when the CSD parade moves through the city. The Cologne transport company (KVB) has adjusted to the expected number of spectators and is increasing light rail traffic. On line 1, a 15-minute service will be introduced between “Junkersdorf” and “Bahnhof Deutz/Messe” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This measure is part of the effort to make the journey easier for the participants and to provide them with comfortable transport, reports t-online.de.

The parade itself starts at 11.30 a.m. in Deutz and winds its way over the Deutzer Bridge, Heumarkt, Gürzenich, Neumarkt, Mittelstraße, Hohenzollernring, Magnusstraße andzeughausstraße to the Andreaskloster near the cathedral. The variety, the atmosphere and the music will always cause a stir. But the journey should also be planned well, because between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. there could be increased disruption on the light rail lines 1, 7 and 9, especially in the area of the Deutzer Bridge. Although there are no planned separations of the lines, safety comes first and situation-related separations cannot be ruled out, informs stadtwerkekoeln.de.

Alternatives and recommendations

If you want to travel by bus, you should be prepared for possible diversions. If necessary, lines 136 and 146 will be rerouted from “Moltkestrasse” via the replacement stop “Rudolfplatz”, and the “Neumarkt” stop will not be served in the event of disruption. In order to transport participants comfortably, articulated buses, which offer more space, will be used throughout the day on the affected lines.

For everyone who would like to take part in the festival, the KVB recommends a special CSD ticket priced at 23.60 euros. This ticket is valid from Friday, July 4th, 2 p.m. to Monday, July 7th, 3 a.m., in the entire VRS area and is already available as a mobile phone ticket or for self-printing. Alternatively, the Germany ticket can be used, also for local transport, but without the opportunity to enjoy the advantages of the CSD ticket. The same applies here: plan well and perhaps it's best to buy online straight away.

Public transport in Cologne

These measures are part of a larger plan for Cologne's public transport that is continually evolving. The current 3rd local transport plan, which was approved on July 11, 2017, sets out the framework conditions for the development of public transport. The aim is to increase the quality and capacity of the transport system and to specify future developments in public transport, as stadt-koeln.de explains.

Overall, the CSD on Sunday will not only be a celebration of diversity, but also an opportunity for the Cologne transport company to show how well they are prepared for major events. So, grab your ticket and look forward to an unforgettable experience in the cathedral city!
