German Youth Championship 2025: Excitement at Fühlinger See!
From June 19th to 22nd, 2025, Lake Fühlinger will be the hub of young German rowing. Around 1,248 athletes from over 197 rowing clubs will come here for the German Youth Championships in the U17 and U23 age groups. The Cologne Regatta Association is hosting this highly anticipated event, which uses proven infrastructure on a seven-lane regatta course.
The preliminary heats begin on Thursday, followed by intermediate and repechage heats on Friday. The A-finals for the U23 rowers and the title fights for the juniors are on the program at the weekend. These championships are not only the highlight of the season, but also an important opportunity for nomination for the national team, which takes part in international competitions such as the World Championships.
A celebration for the whole family
While the rowers fight for medals, spectators can look forward to a colorful supporting program. Culinary stands will invite you to linger, and from Friday afternoon there will also be a stand from the German Rowing Youth (DRJ). Live streams on Sportdeutschland.tv enable fans not to miss any races. The broadcasts start at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 8:45 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
A look at the favorites offers an exciting foretaste of the title fights. In particular, the male 15/16 year olds from the Cologne 77 and RTHC Leverkusen clubs as well as the lightweights from the RTHC in the U19 promise close races. The Leverkusen U19 men's double sculls and the Cologne 77 women's lightweight team in the U23 will also be at the top of the list of gold hopes. A total of 60 titles are up for grabs in three age groups at this event, which only increases the excitement.
Behind the scenes
The regatta-tested staff around Jens Wiesner and around 100 volunteers, including young people from Cologne schools, will ensure that everything runs smoothly. Due to the large number of visitors, it is recommended to look for a parking space in good time. The P1 parking lot in particular will quickly be filled to capacity, while additional parking spaces will be available at P2 and P8.
