Including dragon boat races: excitement at Lake Fühlinger for everyone!
It's all about the Fühlinger See - not just about the competition, but also about togetherness. Because today, June 13, 2025, the exciting start of the dragon boat weekend took place here with the integrative dragon boat race. Over 48 paddles hit the water to the beat of the ship's drummers, creating a rousing atmosphere that thrilled both participants and spectators. Loud Cologne City Gazette 21 teams from Cologne, Aachen and Bergisch Gladbach compete against each other over a distance of 250 meters.
The event, which has been making the waves of Lake Fühlinger foam every year since 2009, was organized by the Rhineland Regional Association (LVR), Lebenshilfe and the social enterprises of the city of Cologne (SBK). The focus here is not just on winning, but above all on the idea of inclusiveness: a team must consist of at least half of people with disabilities. This approach was also well received by participants such as Miriam Becker, who, as a blind athlete, spoke of an “exciting and exciting” experience.
A celebration of community
Over 2,000 participants flocked to the regatta course to experience a day full of fun and fairness together. Around 100 recreational and fun teams took part in the competition, with fun and teamwork always being the main focus. The inclusive dragon boat race also became a special highlight of the weekend, bringing people together regardless of background and ability. More information about this and other sporting events can be found at Dragon boat Cologne.
The atmosphere was, as expected, lively and colorful - the teams wore company jerseys, flashy team logos and even Viking helmets. The race of the “Hawaiients”, who narrowly fought for second place, was particularly exciting. The participants had been preparing for this event in workshops for weeks, which was reflected in the excellent teamwork.
